Tenants’ demo stopped

OKARA, Nov 24: The police in collaboration with the administration of military farms on Sunday prevented the tenants from holding a demonstration.

The tenants were to gather at 10/4L to press the government to grant them ownership of the state land they had been cultivating for a century.

The police stationed at check-posts in Tabrook, 3/4L, 6/4L, 6/4L, 10/4L, 8/4L and 11/4L took positions in villages pickets to abort the meeting.

Leaders of the tenants including Anjuman Mazarin president David Mashih and chairman Ghani Javed postponed the meeting. Speaking at a closed-door meeting attended by a few tenants, they said they would continue their struggle till they got “their land”.

Police said they had raised pickets, because tenants wanted to block the GT Road.

PML-N MEETING: On his way to Multan, PML-N acting president Makhdoom Javed Hashmi stopped over at Deepalpur Chowk here on GT Road, where local PML-N leaders and hundreds of workers had gathered for a brief meeting.
