KOHAT/TANK, Dec 13: Two state-run schools were blown up by unidentified militants in two separate subversive acts in Kohat and Tank districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Sources said that militants planted two time bombs of 20 kilograms each at the building of a middle school for boys in Kot area of Kohat on Monday night. The explosive devices went off one after another at midnight. However, nobody was injured in the incident.

A police official told Dawn that three rooms of the school were destroyed completely while two were partially damaged. The damaged rooms could not be used for teaching, he added. The furniture of the school was also destroyed in the blast.

Meanwhile, a policeman, Resham Gul, who was injured in a rocket attack on tAshura day, succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday.

He died after fighting for his life for eight days in a hospital in Peshawar.

His body was shifted from Peshawar Lady Reading Hospital to his village, Taulanj located on Kohat-Rawalpindi Road. He was laid to rest with official honour in his ancestral graveyard.

In Tank, militants blew up a government primary school for girls in Imamkhel area of the district on Tuesday.

The residents of the area said that suspected militants planted improvised explosive devices at the school building on the night between Monday and Tuesday.

The devices went off with a big bang, destroying two rooms and veranda of the school, they added. Police said that two explosive devices were planted at the school. The bomb disposal squad said that 20 kilograms explosives were used in the explosions.
