MULTAN, Nov 20: A teachers’ convention demanded here on Wednesday that parliament should undo the privatization policy introduced in education and health sectors.

The convention alleged that military rulers wanted to oblige retired generals by giving them assignments in boards of governors of educational and health institutions.

The convention was held on the premises of the Government Science College under the banner of the Joint Action Committee.

The participants vowed to carry on struggle against BoGs and privatization of educational and health institutes. They said show-cause notices under the Removal from Services Ordinance could not force them to retreat from their principled stand.

They urged parliament to ensure education and health care to all citizens of the country. Besides, job security to teachers and doctors was also demanded, calling an end to contractual postings.

Later on, the participants staged a protest rally.

DERA GHAZI KHAN: Teachers and students of the local Government College also staged a joint rally to protest against privatization of educational institutions.

A conference-cum-seminar on ‘Save the education’ was presided over by PPLA’s Prof Ishfaq Khan.

Speakers demanded that the decision regarding establishment of boards of governors should be withdrawn and recruitments on contract be stopped.

SAHIWAL: Students of the Government College of Technology and other educational institutions staged a protest procession on Wednesday and blocked the road at Jahaz Chowk.

The traffic remained suspended for an hour on the GT Road as a result of the road blockade. The protesting students later staged a sit-in in front of the Press Club. They also shouted anti-government slogans.

They demanded that the government should withdraw its decision of forming boards of governors in the educational institutions.

Joint Action Committee chairman Zahid Chaudhry threatened to set up a hunger strike camp in front of the Press Club if the government did not withdraw its decision before Eid.

TOBA TEK SINGH: Students of the Government Municipal Degree College took out a procession on Wednesday against the formation of boards of governors in educational institutions.

Starting from the college, the procession dispersed peacefully on the Jhang Road after passing through different roads. They raised slogans against City police SI Mushtaq Ahmad for threatening the teachers of dire consequences in case they continued the protest movement.
