PESHAWAR, Nov 20: The city police have foiled an attempt to smuggle hashish in an official car in large quantities to down country here on Tuesday night. No arrests were made.

Official sources said that working on a tip-off the Cantonment police erected barricade on the main Peshawar-Bara Road near Bara Gate and signalled the suspect police car with hooter No LXN-7845 coming from Bara to stop.

Seeing the police party, four smugglers, including the driver, who were in police uniforms, ignored the signal and opened fire on the police trying to flee on Swati Road. The police party followed the car and found it abandoned on the side of the road.

The police claimed that the smugglers took the advantage of darkness and escaped.

During search, the police recovered 400 packets, weighing 300kgs, of fine quality hashish from the secret cavities of the vehicle. A case has been registered against the unknown drug smugglers.
