LAHORE: Governing Board of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will be meeting for the first time here on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Zaka Ashraf.

Though there seems no major agenda, the meeting will allow the new chairman to brief the Governing Board about his plans and policies for future. Zaka is also expected to take the GB members into confidence before taking any decision relating to changes in the PCB set-up.

As it has been a practice that every PCB chairman brings in his own working team, it is expected that Zaka would also take some decisions to hire the services of like-minded people.

Interestingly, while all GB members have completed their two-year tenure, some five GB seats are still lying vacant, the positions which were not filled during Ijaz Butt’s three-year tenure which ended on Oct 8.

Moreover, last year, as several members had completed their two-year terms no change was made at the pretext that it is up to the President Asif Ali Zardari, PCB patron, to appoint new GB members.

The big challenge for Zaka is to complete the strength of the Governing Board, for which the regional heads, affiliated with the PCB have already proposed to the chairman that all the 11 regions should be part of the GB instead of having five regions in its fold at a time.
