ISLAMABAD, Nov 28: The capital police on Monday arrested 49 outlaws, including five women, and recovered narcotics, liquor and weapons from their possession.

The police said 30 of the suspects were picked up during a search operation in different areas of Bhara Kahu.

A spokesman for the police said the operation was conducted to ensure foolproof security during Muharram.

Special teams, including commandos and anti-terrorist squad, conducted the search operation in Madina Town, Kot Hathyal, Kiani Road, Seri Chowk and the surrounding slum areas, villages, inns, hotels, restaurants and Afghan habitats.

The police said the arrested persons failed to provide their identification documents and valid reasons for stay in the capital.

In another operation, the police arrested three persons for their alleged involvement in theft and recovered stolen items worth thousands of rupees along with a 12-bore gun and a 30-bore pistol from them.

The Ramna police arrested two persons and recovered a 30-bore pistol and 200gm hashish from them.

On a tip-off, police raided a house in Sector G-12 and arrested six persons, including five women, who were allegedly running a brothel there.

The Tarnol police recovered 2.3kg hashish and 550gm heroin from two alleged drug peddlers which led to their arrest. Police said they were brining the narcotics from Peshawar.

Similarly, the Shahzad Town police intercepted three persons on suspicion and recovered a 30-bore pistol from each of them.

The Sabzi Mandi police intercepted an alleged bootlegger and recovered six bottles of wine from him, while another person was arrested after recovery of 70 magazines of 44-bore rifle from his possession.

The Nilore police recovered a 30-bore pistol from a man which led to his arrest.
