Asif grabs late winner

KARACHI, Nov 18: Asif Ahmad’s winner helped Gulfaraz XI edge past Hameed Khan XI 5-4 in the 13th Ramazan hockey tournament at UBL Sports Complex Monday.

Hameed Khan XI went up when Fahim Khan was on target in the 10th minute, while Kashif Bhopali equalised in the 14th minute and then got the second in the 20th minute. The losers levelled through Naeem Ahmad in the 24th minute.

After resumption, Asif scored in the 37th minute to make it 3-2 while Hameed Khan XI’s Hasin Khan equalised with a 42nd-minute strike.

The seesaw match continued as Gulfaraz XI’s Pervaiz Iqbal got the fourth in the 45th minute only to see his effort cancelled out by former international Danish Kaleem the next minute.

Asif finally got the match-winner in the 57th minute.

Tuesday’s fixture: Munawwar-uz-Zaman XI v Aziz Khan XI.
