ISLAMABAD, Nov 18: Around 100 Afghan students of International Islamic University (IIU) gathered in front of the Afghan Embassy here on Monday to protest against the recent killing of Kabul University students.

The students criticized the Afghan government and demanded immediate dismissal of those responsible for the unfortunate incident.

The students blamed the security authorities for unprovoked violence.

They said irresponsible speeches of the interior minister and Gen Jur’at, who tried to justify their crime by declaring the dead as Al Qaeda men, were most unfortunate and condemnable.

They urged the Afghan government to dismiss the officials and book them under the law for killing innocent students.

The students also questioned the role of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan and benefits of its existence while it failed to prevent such an unfortunate incident.

The students remained in front of the embassy for around one hour and a delegation comprising 30 members, met the Afghan ambassador to inform him about their concerns.

During the meeting, they urged the ambassador to immediately convey their demands to the government in Kabul.

The students also went to the United Nations (UN) offices in Saudi-Pak Towers and presented a memorandum to an UN official.

The official promised that the demands and concerns of the students would be conveyed to the secretary-general of the UN.

Later, the Afghan students dispersed peacefully.

The Kabul University students were killed when around 3,000 students staged a protest rally to demand basic amenities like books, dormitory, first aid facilities and potable water on the campus.

Five students were killed on the spot when the security forces opened fire on the protesters, while bodies of another five students were recently found from a well in Kabul.
