KARACHI, Nov 17: The government is spending Rs30 million on construction of roads in Ibrahim Haidery and its adjacent coastal areas under Khushhal Pakistan Programme to improve transportation facilities as well as for promotion of fisheries.
This was stated by DCO Shafiqur Rehman Paracha during a visit to the project sites to review the pace of work on Sunday.
These projects were inaugurated by Chief Secretary K.B. Rind and City Nazim Naimatullah Khan on different occasions.
Mr Paracha directed the officials at the sites to accelerate the pace of work so that it could be completed within the stipulated period.
He directed the DO (parks) to ensure that greenery and trees are planted alongside the roads after construction works, so that people could feel that the environment has improved.
He also visited a dispensary in Chashma Goth, which has been established under the district council, and issued directives to the officials to improve medical facilities in the dispensary. EDO (health) Dr Nawaz Shaikh was also present.
PRICE LISTS: Meanwhile, officials have been directed to ensure that prices of commodities are clearly displayed on the respective goods in markets.
According to a press release, during a visit to various areas, Mr Paracha observed that hawkers and vendors were violating the instructions regarding display of their licences, names and prices of the commodities.
He said price of each item should separately be displayed on the commodity.
He was of the view that such a strategy would create a healthy competition among the shopkeepers, discouraging profiteering. He also appealed to the people to play their role in bringing the prices of daily use items down to their official fixed levels.
He said people could enquire about the prices of vegetables and fruits in the greens market by calling 135. They can also lodge their complaints about shopkeepers for overcharging.
He said the efforts were being made to keep the prices of fruits and vegetables within the limits during Ramazan.—APP
