PESHAWAR: JUI-F leader released

PESHAWAR, Nov 16: A leader of JUI-F, Haji Ghulam Ali, was released from Peshawar Central Jail on Saturday after the acceptance of his bail application and release order by the Supreme Court on Friday.

A three-member bench of the Supreme Court, comprising Chief Justice Sheikh Riaz Hussain, Justice Mian Mohammad Ajmal and Justice Javed Nawaz Abbas after hearing the arguments of both counsels, accepted the JUI leader’s bail application.

Ghulam Ali was arrested on April, 2001, in a reference of corruption and accumulation of illegal assets.

He remained in the NAB custody for more than 18 months but did not compromise with NAB for his release.

The NAB claimed that they had detected his illegal assets worth Rs30 million, including lands, houses, plots, hotels and plazas.

The accused was elected as a councillor of the Municipal Corporation for 1983-1987 and 1991. When he started purchasing real estate and managed to hold substantial commercial and residential properties— the charges which the accused repeatedly denied.—APP
