LAHORE, Nov 2: The Punjab government has decided to hold essay writing and speech contests among youth in the province for formulating proposals to promoting awareness among people, especially students, regarding dengue and its eradication.

According to a handout, the students writing best articles and essays on the topic will be encouraged.

This was decided at a meeting of the Dengue Emergency Response Committee presided over by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif here on Wednesday to review measures for eradication of dengue virus and provision of treatment facilities to patients.

Diplomat: Iranian Counsel General Muhammad Husain Bani Asadi says Pakistan and Iran are working on three projects of electricity, says a press release issued by the Punjab University on Wednesday.

Mr Asadi said this during a meeting with PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran. Commercial Counselor Mehdi Kardoust was also present.

The three projects are: the supply of 70MW to Turbat from Iran; a 100MW supply project from Iran to Gwadar, and a 1,000MW supply to Quetta from Iran. Electricity supplies to Gwadar would begin in five months, while initial work was being done to arrange 1,000MW supplies to Iran, he said.

Besides economic relations, both countries shared deep literary relations, he said, adding both countries should promote literature of Iqbal, Ghalib and Hafiz among the youth of either side.

Mr Kardoust said he had received multiple suggestions to promote trade ties between the two countries during his visit to Pakistan.

He said Pakistan and Iran had a capacity to decrease each others’ problems if they improved transport resources and better connections in the banking sector. — Staff Reporter
