LAHORE, Nov 15: Governor Khalid Maqbool has admitted that the government has failed in prevention of diseases and creating awareness about it, and controlling quackery.

Speaking to doctors at an iftar party hosted by him at the Governor’s House on Friday, he said it was also required to assess whether the funds for prevention of diseases were being spent judiciously or not.

He said the government had launched campaigns against quackery many a time in the past but failed to accomplish it. Another ‘effective’ campaign would soon be launched, he added.

He said there was also a great need to monitor the working of private hospitals and private practice by doctors.

He dispelled the impression that educational and health institutions were being privatized or commercialized.

He said the University of Health Sciences would help promote quality education.

He said vacancies in the university would be filled by young professionals.

He said the government has allocated 80 kanals of land in Jubilee Town instead of Johar Town for the setting up of Institute of d ‘Montmorency College of Dentistry.

Governor Maqbool said the medical equipment worth billions of rupees were lying unutilized. The constitution of boards of governors would help solve administrative issues at institutional level to avoid procedural snags at secretariat level. — Reporter
