HYDERABAD, Oct 23: Sindh Fisheries Minister Zahid Ali Bhurgari has expressed concern over 27 new polio cases found in Sindh and said the provincial government has devised an effective anti-polio strategy in consultation with the society.
He said no case of polio would be reported in the province next year.
He was addressing a ceremony organised by the Health and Nutrition Development Society (HANDS) at a hospital in Paretabad on Saturday.
The NGO handed over material to be used during the anti-polio campaign to the EDO of health.
The minister stressed the need for better coordination between health officials and civil society organisations for eradication of polio.
For the success of campaign, he said, it was essential for teams to visit each family to inoculate under-five children. He appealed for parents' cooperation to achieve desired results.
He said the health officials should strive to get 100 per cent results adding that he would approach the Sindh chief minister and meet the health minister for allocation of funds for the awareness campaign in Hyderabad.
He praised the HANDS for its offer of logistical support to health officials and said it would augment government's efforts.
