KARACHI, Oct 21: Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) laboured to a three-wicket victory against Hyderabad in the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship Division II match at the UBL Sports Complex here on Friday.

Needing a modest 163-run target for their second win of the season, KRL made a heavy weather of their chase as they lost seven wickets. In the end it was left to Bazid Khan to see them home. Bazid, the former Test right-hander, followed up his 79 in the first innings with an undefeated 61.

The KRL cause was also helped by poor captaincy from Hyderabad’s Mir Ali Talpur who surprised many by giving leg-spinner Zahid Mahmood just 5.5 overs to bowl in the second innings. Zahid had been the main thorn for the KRL batsmen in the first innings with 5-64.

Earlier, Hyderabad were dismissed for 135 after starting the last day of the four-day fixture at 117-7 in their second innings.

Peshawar romped to their third successive victory with an innings and 45-run success over Lahore Shalimar at the Gaddafi Stadium. Lahore Shalimar, who were 18-0 after being forced to follow on, folded up for 135 with slow left-armer Sajjad Ahmed grabbing 5-34.The previously winless Quetta won the ‘battle of the wooden spoons’ in great fashion by crushing Multan by an innings and 80 runs at the Multan Cricket Stadium. Arun Lal put up a sterling performance with his nagging medium-pacers as he returned match bag of 11-94, including 6-36 as Multan crashed to 82 all out in the second innings.

Lahore Ravi claimed three first-innings points after drawing with United Bank at the LCCA Ground.
