GILGIT, Oct 20: The government of Gilgit-Baltistan is making hectic efforts to ensure that people of the region are provided health facilities on their doorstep, said Health Minister Haji Gul Bar Khan here on Thursday.

Answering a question, he told this correspondent that gynaecologists had been posted in most of the hospitals so that women should not have any problem and long distance travel in case of emergency could be avoided.

He said that approving the health ministry’s summary the chief minister had recently regularised the services of 35 contract doctors.

The minister said that unlike past when majority of doctors would manage transfer to their areas after getting employment the health department had successfully repatriated them to their original places of duty by offering various incentives.

SECTARIAN HARMONY: The government has taken almost all parties on board to bring sectarian harmony and brotherhood among the residents of Gilgit-Baltistan, said Maulana Attaullah Shahab, member GB Council, while talking to this correspondent on Thursday.

He said that the policy of reconciliation would produce good results in view of the current geopolitical situation of the region. Mr Shahab, who is also the GB JUI-F secretary general, said that he would strive hard to eradicate sectarianism from the region by preaching for promotion of brotherhood.

KIU CONVOCATION: The third convocation of Karakoram International University will be held in mid November and all arrangements in this regard are being made, said a statement of the university.

It asked the students completing their studies in 2010 and 2011 to get registered before Nov 4 so that degrees could be awarded to them at the convocation.
