NAB receives 111 complaints

PESHAWAR, Oct 19: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter of National Accountability Bureau has received 111 cases mostly pertaining to complaints against government departments, societies and individuals cheating public at large.

A statement issued here on Wednesday said that NAB officers were sent to various districts of the province to personally listen to public grievances against the corrupt government officials, individuals and public cheaters.

The process on the cases, it said, had started as per the National Accountability Ordinance and procedures laid down by NAB.

It was stated that complaint boxes had been installed in various districts of the province for public convenience in order to redress the public grievances against the corrupt officials and individuals. — Bureau Report

Suspects held, arms seized

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Oct 19: Police arrested 17 suspects and recovered two hand grenades and other weapons during a search operation here on Wednesday.

The police conducted the operation in Indus Colony on a tip-off that some miscreants were hiding there. District police officer Khalid Sohail told this scribe that police started door-to-door search in the densely populated locality early in the morning.

The police team led by DSP Malik Mushtaq, DSP Abdul Ghafoor, SHO Mohammad Ashraf and SHO Cantt police station Mohammad Nawaz cordoned off the area and began search after asking the residents to remain indoors.

Officials said that the police arrested 17 suspects, many of them tribesmen, and recovered two hand grenades, rifles and other illegal weapons from their possession. — Correspondent

Anti-polio campaign

MANSEHRA, Oct 19: Local religious leaders have stressed upon parents to vaccinate their children against polio.

“Polio drops have no side effects and parents should vaccinate their children to save them from the crippling disease,” said one of clerics while speaking at an awareness programme organised by a local organisation at the press club here on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion Maulana Waseeur Rehman, Maulana Qazi Khalil Ahmad and other said that though the people of Mansehra district were well aware of the importance of polio drops but a few of them refused to vaccinate their children. They said that it was high time that health department should take the matter seriously and approach the people and convince them not refuse vaccination. — Correspondent

House looted

LAKKI MARWAT, Oct 19: Unidentified burglars took away gold jewellery and valuables from a house in Gandi Khankhel in the limits of Shaheed Asmatullah Khan Khattak police station of Naurang town here on Wednesday.

The complainant, Irfanullah, told police that thieves broke into his house and decamped with two tolas of gold, Rs75,000 cash, two mobile phone sets, two pistols, two shotguns and two Kalashnikovs.

Police have registered a case and started investigation.

Meanwhile, police claimed to have arrested six outlaws in separate raids in Dhoda, Aatashi Michenkhel, Bachkan Ahmadzai and Bakhmal Ahmadzai. The arrested criminals were identified as Ikramullah, Inamullah, Qayyum, Ghazi Marjan, Qudratullah and Mohammad Ishaq. — Correspondent

Hydel profit

PESHAWAR, Oct 19: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to spend five per cent profit of Sarhdad Hydel Development Organisation (SHYDO) projects including Malakand III, Pehur, Reshun and Sheshi power houses, on development of the concerned districts.

The approval was formally given by Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti here on Wednesday. According to the decision, the five per cent profit of Malakand-III project will be spent equally in two constituencies Malakand KP-98 and KP-99, says a handout.

Likewise, five per cent profit of Reshun and Sheshi power houses will be utilised for development in KP-89 and KP-90 constituencies in Chitral. The share in profit will be handed over to the concerned DCO for initiating development schemes. — Bureau Report

Seraiki movement

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Oct 19: Seraiki Lok Party central president Mazhar Nawaz Lashari has said that the establishment of Bahawalpur province would harm the unity of Seraiki speaking people, alleging that some elements were conspiring against their movement.

Speaking at a function here on Wednesday, Mr Lashari said that a separate province for more than 70 million Seraiki people was their right. He said that there were some circles who were denying this legitimate right to the people by conspiring against the Seraiki movement.

The function was held in the memory of late Seraiki intellectual, Zahoor Damani, at the District Council Hall here.

He said that the proposal to divide Seraiki belt into three divisions was another phenomenon which would cause identification crisis for Seraiki speaking people. — Correspondent

Sacked employees reinstated

PESHAWAR, Oct 19: The Peshawar High Court on Wednesday ordered reinstatement of 32 sacked employees of police department.

A two-member bench comprising Justices Dost Mohammad Khan and Waqar Ahmed Seth after hearing arguments and evidences on record ordered the police department’s high-ups to immediately restore the officials.

Petitioner Abdul Haq and 31 others had moved the court seeking restoration of their service.

The petitioners’ counsel argued that the government had published advertisements in the national press on Nov 28, 2009 about vacant posts.

He said the test and interview were conducted on Dec 8, 2009 and their clients were selected/recruited on merit on Jan 1, 2010 and posted in Buner district.

The counsel contended that their clients were sacked without issuing any show cause notice, which was unlawful. — APP

Management cadre

KARAK, Oct 19: The Senior Staff Association and All Primary Teachers Association have demanded that the management cadre in education department should be restored forthwith.

Members of the two organisations told a press conference here on Wednesday that the separation of teaching and management cadres was a step towards the betterment of education sector. They demanded that the government should reverse its decision. They said that the management cadre was rolled back despite the fact that it detected ghost schools and teachers. They said that the management cadre also showed positive results to improve the education environment in schools.

They termed the decision to wind up the management cadre unwise and said that the government should withdraw its decision. — Correspondent
