PSF may install Rehmat as coach

ISLAMABAD, Nov 13: The Annual General Meeting of the Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) due to take place in Rawalpindi on Nov 20 is likely to name Rehmat Khan as the national coach.

Rehmat, currently training the younger players for next month’s World Junior Championship in Chennai, India, is the only candidate for the job, sources told Dawn.

The coach who groomed the legendary Jahangir Khan into a world-beater is all set to fill the slot left vacant by Aftab Javed last November. Muhammad Yasin was then briefly associated with the national players but was sacked by the PSF.

The AGM, to be chaired by PSF president, Air Chief Marshal Mushaf Ali Mir will also decide on a criteria for selection of teams for the Asian Junior Championship in Islamabad next February and the SAF Games the following month.

The national and international calendar of activity for the year 2003 will also be approved in the meeting.

Other agenda items include the award of trophy for pride of performance, amendment in the constitution to increase the cash in hand limit and budget estimate for 2002-2003.

Also to come up for discussion will be the affairs of Balochistan Squash Association and the next year’s Pakistan Open.

A brief by Jahangir Khan, elected president of the World Squash Federation (WSF) last month, is another item on the agenda.
