Zafar cracks superb century

KARACHI, Nov 13: Hurricane knocks by the Man of the Match Mohammad Zafar and Ashraf Ali and a match-winning spell by left-arm leg-spinner Sohail Mehdi, enabled Sui Southern Gas register a thumping 156-run victory over Callmate CC in the 17th Karachi Gymkhana Callmate Cricket Festival, played Thursday.

Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Sui Southern Gas got off to a fine start when openers Nadeem Naeem and Mohammad Zafar put on 59 runs for the first wicket before the former fell for 35.

The fireworks continued when Ashraf Ali joined Zafar and the two put on 159 runs for the second wicket before Ashraf was dismissed for 80 in only 49 deliveries, laced with six boundaries and four mighty sixes.

In the meantime, Zafar joined by Irfanullah continued the onslaught and completed his hurricane century with his 10th boundary. He secored 110 with 11 boundaries and two sixes,

Sui Southern Gas were comfortably placed at 251 for three after their 25 allotted overs.

Set a daunting task of scoring 252 runs for victory Callmate were bundled out for 96 in 18.4 overs.

Left-arm spinner Sohail Mehdi was responsible for the batting debacle with splendid figures of four for five runs. He was ably supported by off-spinner Irfanullah three for 31 and another left-arm spinner Abdul Qadir, who had figures of two for 16.

Mohammad Zafar for his scintillating knock of 110 runs was later named the Man Of The Match.

Test umpire Riazuddin and Zafar Ali officiated at the match.
