KARACHI, Nov 13: Nine ships including Hijaz Yun-5 carrying palm oil are due to arrive at the outer anchorage on Thursday, according to KPT sources.

Berthing activity at the wharves was fairly brisk as the port authorities tried to clear the inward rush of foreign flag vessels. As a result, seven ships, MOL Sincerity, Emirate Star-2, APL Jeddah to unload and load containers, Al-Mansoor to offload sulphur, Tiger to unload and load general cargo, Cherry Valley, to offload wheat for Afghanistan and Mutiara, to offload palm oil.

Sailing was also active as nine ships departed: They are: Iwato, Iron-D, Emirate Star-2, Tiger, Sargodha, OBI Wan, Fighter, Leonid Uteson and NCC Hijaz, while APL Jeddah, Sorena and Sima Bahar are due to sail out on Thursday.

Berth occupancy at the oil piers and the dry wharves was maintained on the higher side at 67 and 65 per cent respectively.

A total tonnage of 0.101m tons comprising 21,029 tons of export cargo including 1,344 tons of rice, 2,661 tons of chrome and 2,697 tons of wheat and 79,495 tons of import tonnage was handled.

The following ships are due on Thursday: Beauty River, Ocean Genius, Al-Ihsaa, Kota Tegap, to unload and load containers, Hijza Yun-5, with 7,000 tons of palm oil, Johar, with 60,000 tons of crude oil, Jianda, with 37,500 tons of DAP fertilizer, Windsor, with 22,000 tons of steel coils, and Mystras, with 38,500 tons of coal.
