LAHORE, Nov 12: An accountability court on Tuesday expressed dissatisfaction over the medical certificate of a NAB accused, detained at the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC).
The court summoned the medical officer concerned for furnishing an explanation on Nov 15.
A medical certificate presented in the court said that accused Azizul Haq Qureshi could not be produced owing to his fragile condition.
The court observed that the medical certificate has no mention that the condition of the accused was fragile and he could not be transported to the court.
It further observed that the findings of the medical officer concerned on the certificate were not convincing enough. The MO should furnish an explanation to the court about the exact condition of the accused on the next hearing.
Interestingly, the court had on the last hearing turned down the NAB’s plea for shifting Aziz to its custody from the PIC saying that he was not in a position to attend the investigations.
Aziz has been arrested by the NAB on charges of Rs75.63 million wilful default. As alleged by NAB, the accused procured loan from defunct National Industrial Cooperative Finance Corporation (NICFC) through different sanctions from 1982 to 1984.
According to the NAB, the loan was obtained in flagrant violation of rules as the accused did not provide any collateral or security against the loan. On Nov 6, 1991, when the cooperatives became defunct the total amount due to Aziz stood at Rs20.36 million. After adding 20 per cent mark-up the total liability of the accused as on June 30, 2002, has been calculated to the tune of Rs75.63 million.
