ISLAMABAD, Oct 4: Four army officers have been promoted from the rank of major general to that of lieutenant general ahead of the retirement of four three-star generals holding key posts.

Sources told Dawn that those promoted were Maj-Gen Naseer Khan Janjua, Maj-Gen Tariq Nadeem Gilani, Maj-Gen Ijaz Chaudhry and Maj-Gen Naveed Zaman.

Lt-Gen Mohsin Kamal, currently serving as military secretary at the General Headquarters (GHQ), and Lt-Gen Shujaat Zameer Dar, Chairman of Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF), will be retiring on October 8.

Lt-Gen Jamil Haider, holding the position of Commander of Army’s Strategic Force Command, will retire on Oct 13. Lt-Gen Javed Zia, Corps Commander of Quetta, will retire on Oct 21.

A dozen two-star generals superseded in the exercise included two commanding officers (GOCs) and a senior officer of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

They included Maj-Gen Saeed Aleem, Maj-Gen Junaid Rehmat, Maj-Gen Waqar Ahmad, Maj-Gen Z. Najam, Maj-Gen Shahid Ahmad Hashmat, Maj-Gen Mohammad Tahir, Maj-Gen Tahir Habib Siddiqui, Maj-Gen Akhtar Iqbal, Maj-Gen Mohammad Azeem Asif, Maj-Gen Wasim Sadiq and Maj-Gen Javed Iqbal Haider.
