ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) on Thursday banned three players for their dismal performance which led them to finish No 22 in the World Men’s Team Championship held in August this year at Paderborn, Germany.

Second-seeded national player, Aamir Atlas Khan, has been banned for two years, while a one-year ban has been imposed on Yasir Butt with Waqar Mehboob also receiving a six-month ban.

Likewise, a player Nasir Iqbal and the manager have also been warned by the PSF.

However, the PSF was not very elaborative in the statement it shared with the media over other reasons that may have led to such a strict action.

The statement said that all players were cross-questioned by a disciplinary committee, adding that all of them were given a chance to clarify their position.

The team manager presented his report, also comprising video recordings, to the disciplinary committee which analysed them in detail.

During the marathon session lasting seven to eight hours the committee came to conclusion that the players underperformed and did not uphold the good name of Pakistan squash.

Having detailed analysis of the videos, the committee banned Aamir for two years from participation in all national and international tournaments besides denying him facilities given to players in the shape of financial support and sponsorship.

As for Yasir, the committee has banned him for one-year in addition to handing the same punishment given to Aamir.

About Waqar, the committee maintained that he has been banned for six months.
