RAWALPINDI, Nov 10: A rickshaw driver was shot dead in a robbery at Tarnol, while a boy committed suicide in the Waris Khan police area on Sunday, police said.
In the first incident, Sophaid Gul, aged 24, a rickshaw driver by profession, was going home on Sunday night when some robbers, who were hiding in the bushes, appeared on the scene and held him at gunpoint.
Gul was shot dead after he tried to overpower the culprits, who escaped from the scene after the incident, the police said.
In the other incident, an 18-year-old boy stabbed himself to death after being scolded by his mother in Tehmasipabad.
Quoting the elder brother of the victim, the police said Nadeem went into his room and stabbed himself. He was taken to hospital where he died.
CAR SNATCHED: Robbers snatched a car near Hattar, Taxila, on Sunday, and also deprived the owner of Rs8,000 and a mobile telephone set, police said.
Sajjad Ahmed, a resident of Sector F-8/3, was heading towards Islamabad from Hattar in his car (IDL-9636) when five persons, riding in a black car, intercepted him on the GT Road.
They dragged him out at gunpoint and held him hostage in their vehicle for four hours, while two of the culprits drove away in his car. They also snatched cash and valuables from him before letting him go.
ACCIDENT: A truck overturned after hitting a car while avoiding a police-picket near Faizabad in the early hours of Sunday, witnesses said.
They said the truck (GLT-5070) overturned after its driver, in an attempt to avoid the police-picket placed in dark on the Murree Road, hit the car (LOB-7763).
The witnesses said the police picket neither had any reflectors nor any light which could enable the driver identify it.
After the accident happened, some people from the surrounding areas arrived at the scene to rescue the two drivers trapped in their vehicles.
The drivers, who sustained minor injuries, are yet to be identified since they escaped from the scene, police said.
The Sadiqabad police have registered a case against the two drivers on charges of reckless driving.
