Sikander shines

KARACHI, Sept 19: Sikander Hayat removed qualifier Faiq Azam 6-4, 7-5 to surge in men’s singles of the 16th STA development series tennis championship at PN Physical Training and Sports Centre, Karsaz, on Monday.

Yayha Gabol is the other qualifier who has joined six exempted players in the men’s singles draw.

Aqeel Shabbir and Daniyal Siddiqui have qualified for juniors’ under-17, Hania for under-15 and Shazil Malik and Saeed Hussain for under-13 main rounds.

Results: Men’s singles: Second qualifying round: Yahya Gabol bt Sufyan Shiwani 6-4, 6-2. First round: Sikander Hayat Khan bt Faiq Azam 6-4, 7-5; Hassan Siddiqui bt Saad Noor Sumar 6-4, 6-3.

Ladies singles: First round: Sara Ahmed bt Wania Khan 6-0, 6-0.

Boys and girls under-15 singles: First round: Nazif Ahmed bt Saeed Hussain 6-1, 6-1; Marib Malik bt Hania Naveed 6-1, 6-2; Dawar Rehan bt Maheen Dada 6-3, 6-3.

Boys and girls under-11 singles: First round: Mustafa Khan bt Abde Ali 8-0; Ahmed Raza bt Mohammed Dada 8-6; Shahzil Malik bt Sameer Ahmed 8-5.

Boys and girls under-9 singles: First round: Amin Shafi bt Rida Khan 8-5.

Tuesday’s fixtures: Matches start at 11am.
