KARACHI, Sept 8: An alleged assassin recorded his confessional statement on Thursday before the court of a judicial magistrate in a kidnap and murder case.

Majid alias Kalu, who is said to be associated with one of the several criminal gangs operating in Lyari, along with his absconding accomplices has been charged with allegedly killing Mohammad Imran after kidnapping him within the remit of the Pak Colony police station in July this year.

The police claimed to have arrested the suspect on Sept 4 and seized an illicit weapon found in his possession.

On Thursday, the investigation officer produced the suspect before judicial magistrate (west) Ashfaq Ahmed Nizamani and moved an application in the court stating that the suspect was ready to voluntarily confess to his guilt before the court.

After completing legal formalities, the magistrate recorded the confessional statement of the suspect under Section 164 of the criminal procedure code.

The suspect confessed that he along with his absconding accomplices — Munawar Pathan, Mula Aftab and Hassal — had abducted Mohammad Imran on the night of July 28, subjected him to torture and dumped his body by the roadside after killing him.

He deposed that he joined the absconding accused to take part in criminal activities, including extortion, and that Munawar used to give him Rs300 a day.

After recording the statement, the court sent the suspect to prison on judicial remand till Sept 18 and directed the investigation officer to submit a charge-sheet on the next hearing.

The police earlier claimed that the suspect had confessed to several targeted killings.A case (FIR 172/2011) was registered at the Pak Colony police station under Sections 365 (kidnapping with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person), 302 (premeditated murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code on a complaint of the deceased's brother.

The court also remanded the same suspect in jail custody till Sept 18 in other murder and illicit weapon cases and ordered police to present charge-sheets.

The suspect and his accomplices were booked for killing one Tajuddin within the remit of the Pak Colony police station in December 2009.

The murder case (FIR No 276/2009) was registered under Sections 302 and 34 of the PPC. The other case (FIR No 200/2011) was registered against the suspect under Section 13-D of the Arms Ordinance.
