LOS ANGELES: Oscar-winning actress Reese Witherspoon suffered minor injuries after being hit by a car while out jogging Wednesday, police and a spokeswoman said.

The 35-year-old was struck by a vehicle driven by an 84-year-old local woman while running in the seafront district of Santa Monica west of of Los Angeles, a police spokesman said.

Witherspoon was on an unmarked crosswalk at the time, and the driver – who was traveling at 32 kmh (20 mph) – was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian, said the spokesman.

The actress was taken to hospital, but was discharged and went home later to recover, her publicist said. “She was hit by a car today in Santa Monica while out for a run,” said the spokeswoman.

Witherspoon “was not seriously injured and is resting comfortably at home,” she added.

The actress, who won her Oscar in 2006 for her role in “Walk the Line”, married for a second time in March this year, wedding her agent Jim Toth.
