RAWALPINDI, Nov 8: The judge of Anti-Terrorist Court no 1, Manzoor Ahmad Mirza, on Friday, acquitted a man of the charges of killing PTV director Oan Mohammad Rizvi for lack of evidence.

According to New Town police, the accused, Naseer Mohammad Khan, alias Nattu, had killed Mr Rizvi in his house.

During the announcement of the verdict, the judge lashed out at the so-called religious groups. He said such groups were doing terrorism in the name of Islam, destroying the lives of innocent and uneducated masses. He maintained that Islam taught tolerance and forbearance, and that issues should be resolved only through discussion.

THREE ACQUITTED: Additional District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Sarwar Sidhu has acquitted two Afghans and a Pakistani national of the charges of murdering a man after committing robbery.

According to New Town police, the two Afghans, Abdul Qadeer and Haji Naqeeb, alongwith their alleged accomplice, Amir Jan, had robbed a house and killed the owner, Haji Daud.

The same court also acquitted a father and a son of the charges of abduction and rape due to the lack of evidence.

According to an FIR registered by Civil Line police, Mohammad Ramzan and his son, Mohammad Sharif, had allegedly abducted a girl when her father refused to accept the marriage proposal of Sharif.

The girl had claimed that she was raped by Sharif after being abducted.

SHO’s SALARY WITHHELD: Additional District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Sarwar Sidhu has issued arrest warrant for the assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Waras Khan Police Station for not appearing before the court as a witness in a drug-trafficking case.

The court also directed the district account officer (DAO) to withhold the salary of ASI Nazar Mehmood.

Similarly, Additional District and Sessions Judge Syed Pervez Ali Shah has issued arrest warrant for the sub-inspector of Race Course checkpost for not appearing in the court as a witness in a case.

SHOW CAUSE NOTICE ISSUED: Civil Judge Saeed Ahmad Sheikh has issued show cause notice to the jail superintendent of Adiala Jail for not producing more than 150 prisoners, against whom cases had been registered in Sadar Bairooni and Chauntra police stations, before the court for the last two days.
