PESHAWAR, Nov 8: An inquiry officer tasked to conduct a judicial probe into the killing of a union Nazim has fixed Nov 11 for recording statements of eyewitnesses and relatives of the slain Nazim.

The inquiry officer, Ahsanullah Babar, who is a member of High Court Inspection Team, held initial proceedings here on Friday at the Nishtar Hall.

Initially, after the Pishtakhara incident on Sept 16, on the request of the provincial government the high court had appointed the district and sessions judge, Peshawar, Ziauddin Khattak, as the inquiry officer.

However, due to election duties the said officer expressed his inability to conduct the inquiry.

Later on, Sattar Khan was appointed the inquiry officer, but the relatives of the deceased, Fayyaz Khalil, expressed a no-confidence in his person, stating that he was on good terms with one of the accused police officers, the ASP Dar Ali Khattak.

None of the eyewitnesses and relatives of the deceased appeared before that officer, following which the government decided to appoint another inquiry officer.

Mr Khalil was killed during a violent demonstration by inhabitants of Pishtakhara, a suburban area of the provincial capital.

The inhabitants were protesting against suspension of electricity by the Pesco to the area.
