LAHORE, Sept 3: Police have still no clue to what caused the death of an army officer who was found dead at his Nisar Colony house in South Cantonment on Friday night.

The victim’s wife, Shagufta Nasreen, and her son, after returning home from a relative’s house found Lt Colonel Sohail Ashraf (47) dead and alerted the Military Police (MP). The police arrived on the spot to find the body in a bathroom.

South Cantonment SHO Bashir Subhani told Dawn that police were informed about the incident by the MP after 7pm on Friday last.

He said though a murder case had been registered against unknown killer(s) on the complaint of the victim’s wife, the forensic examination suggested the man apparently died of ‘natural causes’ around four days ago. He said it seemed he slipped in the bathroom before his death.

He said there were no signs of forced entry into the one-kanal house and no such evidence was found which could suggest the offense was cognisable.

The SHO said police were awaiting the post-mortem report.

He said the victim was currently on a leave prior to his retirement (LPR).

STRANGLED: A young man was strangled allegedly by his wife and a cousin in Umer Park of Shalimar locality on Saturday.

Shalimar police named the victim as Shahid, father of two and a resident of Umar Park.

Initial police investigation showed the victim's cousin Adeel, who had been living with Shahid for the last few months, had established ‘illicit’ relations with Shahid's wife Fozia.

Few days ago, Shahid came to know about the matter and warned Fozia but she did not pay any heed to the warning.

On the day of incident, Shahid was asleep in his room when Adeel and Fozia strangled him and escape from the spot.

Police have registered a case against the both accused on the complaint of deceased's father, Rafiq, and handed over the body to him after autopsy.

ACCIDENT: Two people were killed in separate road accidents here on Saturday.

Shahdara police said 60-year-old Muhammad Nazir of Jinnah Park, Gulberg, was walking along a road near GT Road when he was struck by a motorcyclist who was driving recklessly.

Nazir with multiple wounds was transported to Mayo Hospital where he died.

Nawankot police said 65-year-old Muhammad Sadaqat was crossing the Bund Road when he was hit by a speeding vehicle. He later succumbed to his wounds at a hospital.
