LAHORE, Aug 19: The Auqaf and Religious Affairs Department has approved rules under the Punjab Holy Quran (Printing and Recording) Act of 2011 according to which the publishing institutions in the province will now have to be registered with the Quran Board to publish the Holy Quran.

The department has made the entire rules mandatory to be followed while going through a process of registration, publishing of the Holy Quran and function of Quran Board members.

“The government will appoint/nominate 27 members for the Quran Board, which includes 16 Hafiz-i-Quran and 11 senior government officials,” a spokesman of the department told Dawn.

He said the government would appoint one of the 27 members as chairman of the board.

He said the government would appoint the Quran Board members for a period of three years and give Rs5,000 as travel and dining allowance while attending the board meeting. He said the board would also ensure getting the Holy Quran published by the publishers without any error.

According to rules, the board has been empowered to seize the entire stock of the holy book if they found any error, the spokesman said.
