KARACHI, Nov 5: Fiery spells by Hanee Monum and Nadir Daudi enabled Karachi Grammar School beat St. Michael’s Convent School by 84 runs in the final of the Rev. Father Robert D’silva Golden Jubilee Invitation Inter-school trophy played Tuesday.

The Grammarians reached the final beating The Lyceum School by 19 runs in the semifinal while St. Michael’s gained their final slot after their protest lodged against St. Patrick’s High School was upheld for fielding an overage player after the latter won the semifinal by seven wickets.

Karachi Grammar School won the toss and batted first and except for skipper Abbas Ali (34) and Ali Abbas (22) none of the other batsmen could face spinners Luqman Mubashir three for 18 and Ghiyas Ather three for 22 confidiently and were bowled out for 155 runs in 34.2 overs. Forty two of these runs came through extras.

Chasing 156 runs for victory, St. Michael’s were reduced to 37 for seven in only nine overs as Hanee and Nadir ripped the top order apart. St. Michael’s were finally bowled out for 71 in 25.3 overs with Faraz Ghani top scoring with 20 runs. Left-arm leg-spinner Muneeb Usman chipped in with two wickets for four runs.

Ali Abbas the skipper of Karachi Grammar School was named the best wicket-keeper picking up 16 scalps and averaging 40.33 with the willow. Omair Shaikh from the same school with an average 45.00 per innings and a highest score of 84, was named Best Batsman and Ghias Ather Saeed of St. Michael’s, bagged the Best Bowler award with 12 wickets for 86 runs averaging 7.16.

Ali Abbas was also named the Man of the Tournament.
