RAWALPINDI, Nov 5: The district council here on Tuesday called upon the Punjab governor and health department to dismiss the chairman of board of governors of autonomous hospitals, Air Marshall Arshad Chaudhary (retired), and the principal executive officer, Dr Majid Rajput, for their wrong handling of the administrative affairs.
In a resolution, the council further called for revoking transfer orders of the medical superintendent of Holy Family Hospital, Dr Nisar Cheema, and urged the Punjab government to rid education and health institutions of BoGs.
Imran Hayat, while tabling the resolution, said the BoG chairman was given unlimited administrative powers, which he was misusing for his personal motives.
He said the chairman transferred a doctor for defying his ‘illegal’ orders, but he ignored Rs1.8 million monthly loss being caused to Rawalpindi General Hospital in the shape of gas leakage.
Abid Abbassi, another council member, said the BoG should be warned to refrain from taking steps prejudicial to the interest of the patients and the community at large.
Wasim Aslam alleged the corruption mafia dominated the BoG. Naib Nazim Raja Javed Ikhlas said the district council was justified in debating the performance of the BoG since it was an issue of public interest.
The council then took up irregularities in the education department. The members sought transfer of the executive district officer (education) for irregularities in the appointment of teachers and their postings. The EDO was accused of misbehaving with the council members.
The Naib Nazim called the EDO to explain his position before the house. However, the members seemed to be in no mood to hear any explanation from him. They only wanted his transfer.
Later, the session was prorogued due to lack of quorum.
