HYDERABAD, Nov 15: The absence of district and sessions judge of Hyderabad has created innumerable problems for the litigants, prisoners and lawyers.

The post of district and sessions judge has been lying vacant in the second most important metropolis of Sindh for the last three months and many a case of exclusive jurisdiction have not been touched.

Talking to Dawn , the former president of Hyderabad District Bar Association, Chaudhry Bashir Ahmed, and a high court lawyer, Zahoor Baloch, said that only the district and sessions judge could try narcotics and other cases as the jurisdiction of all other courts in such cases has been ousted.

They said that a large number of prisoners were languishing in jails without trial for no fault of theirs.

Zahoor Baloch said that he had approach the Sindh High Court Hyderabad circuit bench in two such cases but expressed doubts if the honourable Sindh High Court will entertain the cases as it was in fact an appellate court.

The lawyers stressed the need for an early appointment of a district and sessions judge in Hyderabad.
