Curfew lifted in Kabul

KABUL, Nov 3: For the first time in almost a quarter of a century, Afghan authorities have lifted the curfew in the capital Kabul, an official in the interior ministry said on Sunday.

“After a session of the cabinet members, the government decided to lift the curfew in Kabul forever”, Mohammad Ali Paktiawal told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa.

He described the lifting of the curfew as a sign that the security situation in the city has improved.

The curfew was imposed when the Russian-backed communist regime came to power in Afghanistan in 1978.—dpa
