PESHAWAR, Nov 15: The NWFP secretary-general of the Pakistan Muslim League, Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, has said that the fall of Kabul is a great tragedy parallel to the fall of Dhaka in 1971.

In a press statement, issued here on Wednesday, he remarked that just like the fall of Dhaka, a military dictator was responsible for the Kabul debacle. Due to the policies of the government, he added, a pro-Indian and pro-Russian force had entered Kabul.

Mr Jhagra, who is also the secretary-general of the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy, said Pakistan had sided with the United States for the sake of dollars and allowed the “occupation of Kabul by India and Russia.”

He was of the view that the US had used President Gen Pervez Musharraf for achieving its “hidden” objectives. He warned the Northern Alliance of serious repercussions if it did not stop killing Pakhtoons.

He feared that if the alliance failed to stop the killings, Uzbeks, Tajiks and other ethnic Afghan minorities in Pakistan might face bloodshed.
