ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will not accept the hegemony of any country in the region, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said.

Speaking to media representatives on Saturday, Prime Minister Gilani said Pakistan didn’t want any Chaudhry (regional chief) in the region.

He was responding to a statement of US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in which she had urged India to match its economic progress by taking a more assertive political role in the region.

On MQM ministers’ resignations, Gilani said the resignations of MQM’s federal and provincial ministers had not been accepted and their status as ministers was still intact.

About arrest of Dr Ghulam Nabi Fai, Kashmir American Council (KAC) director in Washington, he said Dr Fai was not a Pakistani citizen but belonged to Occupied Kashmir.

Regarding Karachi's law and order situation, Prime Minister Gilani said it was a provincial subject. He said the federal government was in touch with the Sindh government to improve the situation in the city.
