GHALANAI, July 13: More than 1,500 terrorists surrendered to political administration during military operation in Mohmand tribal region, officials claimed.

They said that the arrested terrorists were being dealt in accordance with Frontier Crimes Regulation.

During a visit to Wali Dad Top on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border on Wednesday, Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani was informed by the officials that security forces had also destroyed seven explosive device manufacturing factories in the region.

Militants had attacked Wali Dad Top last month. The officials claimed that militants came from across the border and attacked the security post.

The fight between forces and militants left 25 attackers and four security men dead, they said.

Gen Kayani met tribal elders and officers during visit to the agency. He paid rich tribute to the officers and soldiers, who sacrificed their lives while fighting against terrorists in Mohmand.

The Inter Services Public Relations said that army chief attributed success of the operation to the outstanding combat skills and high morale of armed forces and Frontier Crops. He also praised the joint operations of Pakistan Army and PAF for clearance of Suran Sector.

Gen Kayani urged the tribes to take responsibility and effective control for ensuring sustainable peace in their area. He directed the military and civil authorities to extend all possible support to the returning IDPs.

The ISPR said that 69 officers and soldiers were killed and 231 injured during Mohmand operation.

The Miangan cricket club clinched the trophy by defeating Shamroz cricket club in a thrilling final match of the cricket championship held at Capt Jehanzeb Shaheed Ground in Tehsil Safi here on Wednesday.

Political Agent Amjad Ali Khan was chief guest on the occasion while Col Gul Hassan, government officials, agency sports officer and local elders besides a large number of spectators were present to watch the final match.

Total 25 teams from the entire Mohmand Agency took part in the tournament. In the final match Shamroz cricket club of Shati Kor set a target of 103 runs after winning the toss.

The Miangan cricket club achieved the target in the last delivery of the match, winning the match by four wickets.

Razi Khan of Shamroz cricket club, who scored unbeaten 52 runs, was declared man of the match.

Amjad Ali Khan and Col Gul Hassan awarded the trophy to the winning team and distributed medals and cash prizes among the players.

Speaking on the occasion, the political agent said that Mohmand Agency was rich in cricket talent, which needed to be nurtured.

He said that government would provide facilities to youth to promote sports in the area.
