PESHAWAR, July 13: Polling on the AJK Legislative Assembly's LA-41, valley-6 seat, which is reserved for Kashmir refugees, was held in Peshawar and nine other districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday.

Two polling stations had been set up in Peshawar at Higher Secondary School No. I & II.

According to APP, the voting started at 8am and continued till 5pm without any break.

Queues of people were seen at the two polling stations of Peshawar. The total number of registered voters in LA-41 constituency is 1,668.

Tight strict security measures were taken on the occasion to ensure smooth conduct of voting and to avoid any untoward situation.

Earlier, elections on the seat were postponed across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to security reasons. Our correspondent adds from Mardan:

The AJK PPP candidate Abdul Majid Khan returned successful on Wednesday from the lone polling station set up in the district for the elections on the AJK Legislative Assembly's LA-41, valley-6 seat.

According to the AJK Election Commission, the PPP candidate Abdul Majid Khan obtained 14 votes while the independent candidate Asif Ameen got 4 votes in the total votes cast at the polling station no 5 established at the government girls high school No.1 Mardan.

The Mardan district has only 20 registered voters -- 13 male and 7 female -- however, 11 male and 7 female voters cast their vote.

The election commission officials said eight candidates belonging to MQM, PPP, MQM-H, JI and independent candidates were in the fray.

The PML-N had supported the JI candidate under an agreement reached between the two parties before the elections.
