PESHAWAR, Oct 30: NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah has urged academicians to replace the old techniques of teaching with the modern ones to improve the education system of the country.

Speaking as the chief guest at the annual convocation of Peshawar University on Wednesday, he said the education sector had been put on the back burner, which hindered its progress.

Therefore, universities and other educational institutes were unable to produce the educated lot, he added.

He said higher education was the right of deserving students, and the government was going to facilitate the same at an affordable cost to them.

The governor extolled the role of the university, and urged its teachers and students to create an atmosphere conducive to the quality education.

He vowed on behalf of the government to provide resources to the educational institutes to turn them into viable centres of learning for the benefit of maximum number students.

The governor advised the students not to consider their degrees as a source of getting jobs and economic survival, but to use common sense and set examples in the society to remove hardships of the general public. Later, the governor awarded gold medals and certificates among the successful candidates. Earlier, the vice-chancellor briefed the governor on the upgradation of facilities at the varsity.
