KARACHI, Oct 30: The annual graduation ceremony of the Agha Khan University’ Department of Post-graduate Medical Education was held here on Tuesday. Saidullah Khan Dehlavi, Chairman, Board of Trustees of the university was the chief guest.

This year, 44 interns were awarded certificates for completing their internship and another 52 residents, who completed speciality training in several clinical disciplines, were awarded certificates.

The disciplines included anaesthesia, community medicine, neurology, obstetrics and gynaecology, orthopaedic surgery, otolaryngology/head and neck Surgery, paediatrics and pathology. Six fellows, including the first in pulmonary medicine, completed sub-speciality training in adult cardiology, clinical neurophysiology and electro-diagnostic medicine, gastroenterology and neonatal paediatrics.

Congratulating the graduates and their parents, Mr Dehlavi said that the graduates’ success was the result of their hard work and the selfless support, guidance and encouragement of their parents, taking them up the ladder of lifelong learning and devotion to humanity.

He said the importance of post-graduate education was reflected in the expansion of speciality care areas at the university.

He said that the university’s programmes were not designed to improve the health care systems in Karachi alone, but also in Pakistan, the region, and in east Africa.

Dr S. Kassim Lakha, President, of the university, felicitated the graduates for successfully completing their rigorous years at the PGME programme, and counselled them on the challenges that lie ahead.—APP
