MIRAMSHAH/ LANDI KOTAL, July 8: A man was killed and another injured when security forces opened fire on a motorcycle at Easha checkpost, about 10 kilometres east of here on Friday.

Sources said that the security personnel manning the checkpost signalled the two men riding a motorcycle to stop for checking, but they ignored the signal and tried to escape. The personnel opened fire, killing one of them on the spot, while the other one was injured, who was shifted to a nearby hospital.

Meanwhile, a Nato container truck was partially damaged when a time device went off near Torkhum border, officials said on Friday. They said that the truck was parked at private terminal at the time of explosion. Militants had planted a time device near the engine of the vehicle.

The khasadar personnel took the driver and the cleaner of the vehicle into custody after putting out the fire. Other vehicles parked nearby remained safe and were driven away after the blast. The incident also caused suspension of traffic at the border for some time.—Dawn Report
