KARACHI: Hosts South Korea seized a commendable 2-0 lead over Pakistan on the opening day of the Davis Cup Asia Oceania Zone group II second round tie in Gimcheon city on Friday.

According to results, Kyu-Tae Im gave his country 1-0 lead in the best of five rubber when he beat Pakistan No 1 Aqeel Khan 6-2, 6-4, 6-2 in the opening singles.

Contrary to the first singles, Im’s teammate Yong-Kyu Lim was stretched to limits before registering 6-2, 5-7, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 marathon victory over celebrity Aisam-ul-Haq, who is ranked ninth in the ITF doubles ranking.

The Aqeel and Aisam pair will be up against Young-Jun Kim and Yong-Kyu Lim in the doubles on Saturday.
