LAHORE, July 3: A motorcyclist, who was shot at and wounded during a robbery incident, overpowered one of the two robbers at Mughalpura on Sunday.

Preliminary police inquires said two robbers stopped Afsar Khan, who was going Sabzi Mandi, near Mughalpura Post Office around 9:45am and tried to snatch cash and keys to motorcycle at gunpoint.

Afsar managed to overpower one of the robbers following which the other robber opened fire on him. Undeterred despite bullet injuries, Afsar overpowered the robber. The other robber sped away.

Some passersby caught the robber and alerted the Rescue 1122 and the police. The injured was taken to the Services Hospital while the robber was handed over to the patrol police.

Civil Lines SP Investigation Liaquat Ali Malik told Dawn that the arrested robber, Muhammad Zahid, of Shahdara, was a hardened criminal as he was wanted by the police in a number of robbery incidents.

The SP said Zahid’s elder brother, Shahid, was already in Adiala Jail in connection with dacoity and robbery cases.

He said Zahid’s accomplice, Rafaqat, also was wanted by the police in several robbery cases. He said raids were conducted at the Shahdara Town residences of Rafaqat and his brothers and sisters.

He said on the recommendation of the SSP investigation, the CCPO announced cash and certificate for the injured for his act of bravery.— Staff Reporter
