HYDERABAD, Oct 27: The government will take immediate remedial measures and the shortage of water will be resolved on a priority basis.

This was said by the Sindh Minister for irrigation, power, communication and works, Syed Eijaz Ali Shah Sheerazi, on Saturday.

Speaking to the growers, the minister said that the basic purpose of his tour was to apprise himself of the people’s problems, which would enable him to take immediate remedial measures.

Warning delinquent irrigation officials of strict action, he said the main cause of shortage of water was absence of rains.

He said that rotation programme was being implemented to overcome the problem.

During his visit of Sui Kandhar Shakh and Kalar Shakh, he issued the suspension order of Sub-engineer, Ghulam Rasool Gahato, on public complaints. He also directed for provision of two excavators to the area.

SECRETARY: The Sindh secretary for irrigation and power, Mohammad Hashim Leghari, said that the province would receive more water this year by comparison with the Rabi season last year because of sufficient storage of water at Tarbela and Mangla dams.

The secretary was speaking at a meeting of growers at the agriculture complex here on Sunday.

Dispelling the impression that Sindh had sold its water to Punjab, he said that the department was trying to use the available water in an optimum way besides wastage of water would be strictly controlled.
