LAHORE, June 16: Police claim to have arrested 198 proclaimed offenders, 211 court absconders and 163 target offenders besides 44 members of 15 gangs of criminals in a five-day crackdown.

Police also recovered cash and valuables worth Rs2.1 million from the possession of the arrested criminals.

According to a police spokesman, in its ongoing operation ordered by DIG Operations Ghulam Mehmood Dogar, the police detained 182 people with illegal weapons and registered 171 cases against them.

The police also took 316 drug peddlers into custody and seized a large quantity of heroin, hashish, opium and liquor.

As many as 273 gamblers were detained and 60 cases were registered against them. Some 143 people were arrested in a crackdown on prostitution dens while 41 people were arrested for land grab.

The police detained 79 people for doing wheelie and registered 50 cases against them. Some 52 people were taken into custody for aerial firing.
