LAHORE, June 15: Some 15 commercial premises on Multan Road were sealed by the Excise and Taxation Department on Wednesday for non-payment of property tax.

According to sources, because of patronage of some influential political figures of the area, owners of these commercial premises at Mohlanwal had not been paying property tax for the last 10 years or so.

Assistant Excise and Taxation Officer Lateef Anjum told Dawn the owners of these premises were served notices every year followed by reminders but to no avail. As a result, the arrears accumulated to the tune of Rs4 million.

Excise and Taxation Officer Chaudhry Aziz led the Lahore region team that sealed the premises. He said the campaign to recover property tax would continue indiscriminately.
