KARACHI: Shahid Afridi’s lawyer Mehmood Mandviwalla expressed happiness at the out-of-court settlement of the Afridi-PCB row and hoped the former captain will be cleared by the Board.
Speaking to DawnNews immediately after withdrawing the case against the PCB in the Sindh High Court, Mandviwalla stated that the settlement was a positive development which is set to pave the way for Afridi’s return to cricket field as well.
He hoped that the governing body of the game would reinstate Afridi’s NOCs at the earliest, since the documents are a prerequisite to his participation in both the domestic T20 tournament in England and the Sri Lankan Premier League set to take place next month.
Mandviwalla stated: “I hope that after the settlement, Afridi would be seen hitting sixes for Hampshire,” he added. Mehmood also clarified that he and his client had no objections to the disciplinary process of the cricket board.
According to the lawyer, Afridi was ready to appear before the committee and defend his decision of retiring from international cricket and making public his grievances against the cricket board.
Mandviwalla also stated that he and Afridi were keen to work on the reconciliatory path as they hold the cricket board and its disciplinary process in high esteem; Mehmood also revealed that they had no objections to the composition of the PCB disciplinary committee.
Mehmood further said that he is hopeful his client would be given a fair deal by the PCB and Afridi would not be fined heavily for his outburst in the media which irked chairman Ijaz Butt and his management.
