RAWALPINDI, June 14: A man was shot dead by his elder brother over a property dispute, while another person was gunned down by his rivals in the city on Tuesday, police said.

Qamar Zaman, 35, was sleeping in the courtyard of his house in Dhoke Banaris (R.A. Bazaar police area) when his brother Noor Mohammad along with two persons came there in the wee hours of Tuesday and shot him dead.

Fiaz Ali Khan, the son of the deceased, told police that his father had allocated a piece of land for parking in front of his house while his father's elder brother Noor Mohammad was against it.

He said once his uncle had threatened his father of dire consequences during telephonic conversation with him.

The body of the victim was handed over to his relatives after the postmortem.

In another incident, a man was shot dead by his rivals over old enmity in Chauntra area on Thursday.

Mehrban Khan was on his way home when five masked men intercepted him and gunned him down.

Abdul Rehman complained to the police that Mehrban Khan was going home when his rivals Asad Saleem, Mohammad Arsalan and Abdul Majeed along with another unknown man intercepted him and opened fire on him.

He said though Mehrban Khan tried to escape the attack, he was chased by his rivals and finally shot dead. The motive behind the murder was old enmity. However, the alleged killers escaped from the scene.

Meanwhile, a ward boy at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) killed himself by taking 'wheat pills' at his home on Tuesday.

Police said Tasawar Hussain 22, was brought to the hospital after his condition deteriorated. On reaching the hospital he could not regain his senses and later died.

Police said the victim could not record his statement as he remained unconscious till his death.

However, the motive behind the suicide was not known as his family claimed that there was nothing wrong with him which could make him kill himself.
