GUJRANWALA, Oct 25: The nursing staff of the local DHQ Hospital went on a token strike against the kidnapping of a nurse by the son of the nursing superintendent from the hostel late Thursday night.
The protesting nurses demanded that the nurse should be recovered and a case be registered against the accused.
Meanwhile, the EDO (Health) ordered an inquiry and sought a report from the DHQ Hospital’s MS within 24 hours.
A third year class nurse ‘M’ who was admitted to hospital due to illness was allegedly kidnapped by Chand, son of nursing superintendent Ms Manzoor Nawaz, with help of his accomplice. When the nursing staff came to know about the incident, they went on strike and wore black armbands.
To save her son, the nursing superintendent made an entry in the hospital record about the ‘discharge of nurse’ from the hospital. But, the EDO (Health) and DHQ MS reached there and took the hospital record into their custody.
They assured the nursing staff that punitive action would be taken against the accused involved in abduction of the nurse. They appealed them to call off their strike for the sake of ailing patients. The nursing staff called off their strike on their assurance, but wore black armbands.
SURPRISE VISIT: Punjab Social Security Commissioner Maj Haroon Rashid (retired) paid a surprise visit to the Social Security Hospital and expressed his displeasure over arrangements here on Friday.
The commissioner took a serious note of the complicated process of providing medicines to patients. He warned the MS and medical officers to revamp the cleanliness and other arrangements in the hospital.
He also took a round of various wards and inquired from patients about the provision of medical facilities.
HOUSE LOOTED: Outlaws looted a house and also took away a motorcycle in two strikes in and around the city here on Friday.
Four outlaws barged into the house of Akber Ali in Pir Kotli Ahmad Shah and held the inmates hostage. They snatched Rs11,000 in cash, jewellery and escaped with the booty.
Two robbers intercepted Khurram on Gondlanwala Road when he was on his way home by motorcycle. They snatched Rs5,000 in cash and motorcycle and escaped.
PARDONED: A condemned prisoner, who murdered two persons, escaped hanging when heirs pardoned him here on Friday.
Muhammad Ashraf of Wahando village had murdered Muhammad Aslam and Muhammad Asghar over children quarrel some six years ago. The district and sessions judge, Gujranwala, had awarded him death sentence on two counts. The high court and Supreme Court upheld the decision of the lower court while the president also rejected his clemency appeal. The district and sessions judge issued death warrants and fixed Oct 25 for his execution in jail.
COPS SENTENCED: The Anti-Corruption Court, Gujranwala, on Friday awarded court rising sentence to three traffic constables in corruption cases.
Nasir, Nadim and Muhammad Rafiq were caught red-handed by DSP Intisar Jaffari while receiving minor amounts from vehicle owners a few months ago.
CONCERN: Students and teaching staff of the Gujranwala University of Future Technology and GCCI have expressed their concern for looting university professor and his mother by highwaymen.
Shazib Hamid along with his mother was going to Lahore by his car when three armed outlaws intercepted him near Kushti Stop on the Sialkot Road. They snatched Rs200,000 in cash and jewellery from the son and the mother. They attacked and injured Shazib with a knife for putting up resistance. Shazib is the son of former MPA S.A. Hamid.
CONDEMNED: Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal’s MNA-elect Qazi Hamidullah, MPA-elect Maulana Ghulam Farid Hazarvi and Pakistan Medical Association on Friday condemned the detention of Dr Amir Aziz.
They demanded immediate release of the detained orthopaedist.
