ISLAMABAD, Oct 25: The sitting federal and provincial ministers have started filing applications with the PML-Q to get their nomination for Senate elections.

Sources said that those who have applied for the PML-Q tickets for the Senate election included Federal Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz, Federal Minister for Railways and Communications Javed Ashraf Qazi, Federal Minister for Law Khalid Ranjah, Punjab Law Minister Rana Ejaz Ahmad, Syed Fakhar Imam, Abida Hussain, Azeem Chaudhry and Mian Muhammad Ashraf.

Many leaders of the PML-Q, who lost the general elections, have also applied for the party tickets to contest the Senate polls.

After joining the PML-Q by Sheikh Rashid Ahmad on Friday, the total strength of party seats in the National Assembly has reached 96.

The sources said that they have almost finalized the name of the candidate for premiership which would be announced within the next two days.—APP
